Great Smoky Mountains National Park - Maggie Valley
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park boarders Maggie Valley on the North and West. From Maggie Valley you can take hwy 19 to the Blue Ridge Parkway and follow it to its start at the southern entrance to the park. Highway 441 crosses the park from Cherokee to Gatlinburg Tennessee, and sometimes closed at the Newfound Gap in the winter due to weather conditions. Its a beautiful ride over the spine of Blue Ridge Mountains and there are many great opportunities to turn off the road and set out on foot to explore the mountain sides on foot. Great locations include Mountain Farm Museum at the Oconaluftee Visitors Center and Mingus Mill which is a actual working corn mill dating back to before the area was a national park. At the crest of the road you can take a detour to Clingmans Dome. From the parking area there is a half mile walk to the spiraling observation tower at the peak.
